So, a week ago Sunday I broke a mirror. I swear, it wasn't my fault. I was in the bathroom getting ready for Moira's party and I opened up the medicine cabinet (we have one of those ones that is divided into 3 doors if that makes sense) anyway, I opened the one cabinet, and it attacked me! It was like a ferocious man (mom) eating beast! It was horrible, a knock down drag out fight. But in the end I was victorious. You aren't buying that are you? Ok, real story, I opened the cabinet door and I guess it popped off the hinges or something. It crashed into the sink then toppled forward and hit the floor. It then shattered into a billion pieces. Ok, not that either, it pretty much cracked and one big chunk of mirror fell off, but it stayed pretty intact. That was very lucky because Moira was right next to me when all this happened. We both kind of looked at each other like "What the heck just happened?!" The sucky part is there is no way to just put the cabinet door back up. So, we have an open section of the medicine cabinet, which I'm not the most picky person in the world, but it's bugging the stuffing out of me every time I see it. I'd love to replace the cabinet ASAP, I'm actually wanting to just get a pretty mirror and not have the medicine cabinet part, but we are still trying to figure out about a new car so I don't want to spend upwards of $100 on replacing it. So, it just sits there on the wall, all gap-toothed and taunting me.
With the car situation, here is the solution we have come up with: it seems the main thing holding us back from new car buying glory is that we would be rolling the remainder of our current car loan into the new loan. We get approved for financing, but they want a crazy amount for a down payment. We are pretty much upside down in our current loan, and car dealerships are only offering about $3000 for it for trade. So, we are going to try to sell the van ourselves. We've never sold a car before, so it makes me nervous. But, if we do that then we will probably only have to pay $2,000 or less out of pocket to pay off the loan. Then we go to the dealership and should be able to get financing with no problem. So, later this week Dennis will take the car to be detailed and prettied up, and we will list it on craigslist. It really is a nice van. If it had 8 passenger seating we wouldn't be trying to buy a new one, but it doesn't make sense for us to have to take 2 cars whenever we go out as a family.
It's a little overwhelming to me right now, all these changes. Oh, did I mention that Dennis hates his job and is looking for a new one? I like to think of myself as a pretty easy going, go with the flow kinda gal (though Dennis insists I'm really a bit of a control freak). I'm not stressed so much as just kind of "AAARRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" with all this going on. It's a lot of change that has to work out perfectly within the time frame we have...which as of yesterday is pretty much 7 weeks exactly and counting. I do honestly feel that things will work out the way they are supposed to work out, so I try not to worry. See, would a control freak have a philosophy like that? In your face, Dennis! I'm not a control freak....much.
And that is why I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I mean, the broken mirror means 7 years bad luck, right? And we have a lot going on right now that could go wrong. But I'll just have to think positively and assume that the 7 years bad luck is just a bunch of hoowie. Or I'll have to start studying how to break a superstition. And I'm not good at studying. I'd probably end up causing the Apocalypse...or worse, having to do more studying. Oh, the horror! The horror! ("somebody think of the children!")
I'll end this with a little 'blast from the past'. I took this picture at the beginning of August 2007, so about 18 months ago. It's still one of my favorites. Yes, the kids are blowing raspberries at the camera. Well, except for Lincoln who has a look of "This is the gene pool I come from? I'm afraid....very afraid!". You know, I do have the kids sit for posed nice pictures, and yet it's the goofy ones like this that are always my favorites.
